Wednesday Socials to Resume April 7, 2021
Wednesday, April 7th, will be the kick-off for our weekly social when neighbors, friends and their guests can come and meet other Woods families. This event occurs every Wednesday, rain or shine, under the large pavilion. We start at 5PM for about 2 hours or until dark. Folks normally bring their own drinks and often food to share. You can optionally bring hot (we have electric) or cold appetizers or main dishes, salads, desserts, soups, chili, chips, etc. to share.
Park Update
Spring Park Cleanup - THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

We were blown away by the 20 volunteers who came out to help get the Park ready for the 2021 season on March 30th!! With this army of help, the Park looks the best ever. Leaves were blown everywhere, especially in all the culverts and trenches that are used to control water flow, both pavilions, and along the walking path. Even the large boulders which have been stuck in the main culverts for years were removed. Both pavilions were set up and cleaned. They are now ready for the Wednesday Social Hours and party reservations. As we anticipate increased use of the Park this year, we even created new parking spaces next to the center field.

Corporate Friends of the Park - 2021
In response to requests from businesses serving The Woods to acknowledge the benefit they have received by working with Woods residents and indicating their interest in supporting the Park's further development we created the Corporate Friends of Winter Camp Park program for 2020.

Our 2021 Corporate campaign is currently underway seeking both renewal from 2020 friends and seeking new Corporate Friends to join the team for a yearly contribution of only $250 or more.

Check out the Supporters page often to see all the Corporate Friends and to join the list!

New Hiking Map

John Meyer and Wendy Smith have developed a new set of hiking trails in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area accessible from within The Woods and near/ accessible from Winter Camp Park; the WCP Hiking Access brochure below describes them.

Even in the winter we hope that more folks get out to enjoy WCP and environs! Plenty of social distancing space!

Projects
This Park is being developed thru a series of projects. These projects will be started based on several factors:

- Essential for safety and appearance of the park
- Amount of interest expressed by the community and the partners
- Availability of resources (funding and volunteers) to accomplish the project

Check out the Projects page to see what has already been completed.
Get Involved
The creation and maintenance of this park can only be accomplished by the help of volunteers within the community.

Every year there are lots of needs for volunteers to help with the park including:
-
Park cleanup, especially in the Spring
-
Cutting and removing dead trees
-
Set up pavilion for Wednesday Social Hours
-
Help with or manage social events
-
Many others

Please consider helping with any of these or other things you are interested in. Use the Contact page to forward how you'd like to help.

2021 Decals are in!
Join the 2021 Friends of Winter Camp Park Program now!
The initial major projects have been funded by contributions from the twelve homeowner partners, including the purchase of the land, construction of two family-sized pavilions, and significant excavation and grading to mediate water flow.

Contributions by other homeowners helped purchase picnic tables and property maintenance and enhancement.
Continued support is needed from the community to accomplish other projects and to pay for recurring expenses of nearly $4000 (insurance, taxes, electric, computer services and portable potty), and to keep this area FREE FOR ALL.

So, join the Friends of the Park program to support this goal.
Special Remembrance
On June 24, a crepe myrtle tree was planted at the front of the Park, and dedicated to honor the memory of Taleigh Smith, the young daughter of the Park's special supporters, Wendy and Joe Smith. See pictures below.
Park News

The Woodstock 50 Anniversary celebration was a huge success in 2019. The festival was attended by over 200 neighbors and friends. For many, it was their first visit to Winter Camp Park.

The band, formed solely for this event, was AWESOME! It consisted of Woods residents and their friends, led by Brian McMahon, who formed the band, and they practiced in just in less than three months time. Many attendees commented that they could not tell if the live band was playing or if the song was coming from DJ Dan Forte. They were that good!! We certainly have a talented community!
